Like all members of the city council in the Baltic port city of Rostock, Germany, male mayor Klaus Killmann has a feminine job title-that of
”mayoress.” The council recently adopted a resolution stipulating that
”the feminine will be used for all job descriptions” in an effort to balance the historical use of masculine job titles for either gender. But Karla Stasyak, the council`s equal-opportunity official is not entirely happy with the switch: ”It looks like we fell from one extreme to the other.”
