As a resident of the Beverly Hills-Morgan Park community, our family has been participating in the Blue Box Recycling experiment for the last few years. This program has been successful in not only the recycling of materials but in the awareness and education in the environmental aspect by all the participants.
The Blue Bag project does not offer the same incentives for involvement. It is neither educationally nor practically sound. Instead it will put a burden of purchase on the consumer and a burden of expense on the city.
We urge the city to reconsider its position and continue and expand the use of the Blue Box in the program of Recycle, Reuse and Reduce, which is what is needed for a long-range solution of the problem.
