The Grayslake Zoning Board of Appeals has received 445 more signatures of residents opposed to allowing a local asphalt plant to reopen, bringing the number of signatures to 1,600 in the town of 7,300.

The added signatures were presented to the board Tuesday before it voted to hire experts to study possible traffic and noise pollution that would accompany the reopening of the Skokie Valley Asphalt site.

The asphalt company has applied to the board for a special-use permit even though its attorney, Murray Conzelman, said the plant does not need one.
