Irate residents have protested the temporary closing of Derby Road from Archer Avenue to 131st Street, but Lemont village trustees say they can`t do anything about it.
Robert Ranquist Co. is building an exclusive residential community around a golf course at the southeast corner of McCarthy Road and Archer Avenue. Derby Road cuts through the middle of the development.
Ranquist asked Cook County for permission to build a tunnel for golf carts under Derby. The county allowed the road to be closed for 90 to 120 days beginning Monday during tunnel construction.
Homeowners last week presented petitions to the Village Board with 275 signatures demanding that the road remain open.
