The Illinois Department of Conservation has given preliminary approval to the village`s application to become a ”Tree City.” The department said it would grant final approval after the village submits a description of its Arbor Day celebration last year.

To become a ”Tree City,” the village had to commit to a forestry program allocating $2 per resident annually and hold observances such as Arbor Day, Village President Donna Thomas said.
