Sergei Bubka raised his world pole vault record to 20 feet 1 1/2 inches Friday in a special indoor meet just for jumpers.

The 28-year-old Ukrainian, the gold-medal winner at the Seoul Olympics, went over the bar on his second attempt at 20-1 1/2, half an inch higher than the record he set last year.

Bubka`s outdoor best is 20 feet even, also a world record.

The latest record was set in the Schoeneberg Sport Hall, where a meet for high jumpers and vaulters is held every year.
