I found it interesting to read how the ”driving under the influence”

case against William Wirtz, owner of the Blackhawks and Chicago Stadium, was disposed of (Sports, Feb. 7). Mr. Wirtz pled guilty, received a $500 fine, a

”stern” lecture and his driver`s license back with a judicial driving permit.

I do not know all the facts of his case, but the punishment does not seem to fit the crime. Mr. Wirtz has, among other things, made his millions on the sale of alcohol.

We are continuously told what a major problem DUI is and that the laws will change this behavior. What kind of punishment is this? It looks like a case of selective enforcement and does not send the proper message.

Maybe the judge should have suspended his liquor and driver`s licenses. The liquor license would certainly change the behavior of people who attend his games and then drive after drinking. It would also hit him where it hurts- in the wallet.
