Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
It was sad to read in the Transportation section (Feb. 2) that the Japanese bullet train evolved from American engineering of the 1930s and `40s, and that rail cars in Canada, Europe and the Soviet Union were based on American designs. It`s sad because American industry, not only the rail car manufacturers, but also our electronics industry, auto industry to a certain degree, etc., apparently gave more emphasis to quarterly bottom lines than to continuing to develop and produce.
Now we are paying the price. Now we want to buy American. But now it may not be much worth buying American-or even impossible to buy Amer-ican. Even VCR tapes with well-known American brand names are made in Japan. Too bad.
