A seminar on the effects of the anti-breast cancer drug Tamoxifen is offered this week by the Brown Bag Lunch Group of the Y-ME National Organization for Breast Cancer Information and Support.

Tamoxifen, which inhibits estrogen from stimulating the growth of breast cancer cells, has become a widely used drug. Oncologist Jacob Bitran of Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge will discuss how the drug works, its potential uses against heart disease and osteoporosis in women, as well as possible side effects.

The Y-ME organization is a national clearinghouse for information on breast cancer. Its Brown Bag Lunch Groups meet monthly to learn about advances in breast cancer research and to hear doctors and therapists describe ways to deal with the disease.

This week`s meeting will be held at noon Wednesday at the Illinois Cancer Center, 17th floor, 200 S. Michigan Ave. Free. For information: 708-799-8338.
