Cobblestones Eatery in Woodridge has a tucked-in-a-corner location that suits its cozy, stay-awhile atmosphere. It`s nestled between large shopping plazas to the east and busy Interstate Highway 355 to the west, in Woodward Center at 75th Street and Woodward Avenue.
Inside, diners view greens of an adjoining golf course in a fresh decor of bleached woods, roomy booths and soft lighting.
Barbecue is king here. Owner Dimitri Kleronomos said, ”We`d rather offer a few things prepared in a special way instead of many things done so-so.”
Little touches prevail-a side dish of cinnamon applesauce with barbecue dinners that already include soup or salad and potato; seven different salad dressings, including poppyseed; and, once a month, a one-day Saturday special such as a pig, beef, ham, or lamb roast; corned beef, or other crowd pleaser offered at $6 to $11.
Chargrilled lunch and dinner sandwiches and dinner specials round out the barbecued offerings, which include beef, pork, chicken, seafood and burger selections. Barbecue favorites here include pork chops ($6.50), shrimp
($9.25), strip steak ($13.95), chicken tango (topped with two cheeses, onion and tomatoes, $7.95), beef kabob ($10.95), smokey swiss chicken ($7.75), as well as traditional ribs, chicken, and sloppy Joes.
Kleronomos said, ”Many people enjoy barbecue ribs; with a little coaxing, sometimes we get them to try other barbecue dishes.”
Little coaxing is needed to promote hefty appetizer selections, which are freshly breaded daily. Mozzarella sticks, potato skins, zucchini, mushrooms, onion rings, chicken fingers, shrimp and clams can be ordered separately
(about $4) or in big, combo platters. Dinner selections include steaks, Oriental stir-frys, and as well as several chicken, veal and seafood dishes.
Prices for dinner, which includes soup or salad and potato, range from $6.50 (beef stir-fry) to $14.95 (large cut, prime rib). Also available is homemade pizza and a five-item kids` menu.
