A diver who was pulled unconscious Friday from the water at Commonwealth Edison`s LaSalle nuclear plant died Saturday-the first diving fatality in the company`s history, a company spokesman said.

Terry Navarro, 37, had just completed a two-hour procedure about 30 feet underwater when he radioed for help, Commonwealth Edison spokesman Gary Wald said. When a backup diver pulled Navarro out, he was unconscious.

Navarro received emergency CPR and was taken to a hospital in Streator, Ill. before being transferred Friday afternoon to Lutheran General Hospital, which has a decompression chamber, Wald said. Navarro, of Earlville, died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday.
