– Mt. Carmel 4, St. Francis de Sales 0-Mark Brajkovich and Dave Finn each had two hits and Bill Phelan smashed a solo home run as Mt. Carmel (24-6, 12-2)
clinched the Catholic League South championship. Tom Lebel fired a three-hit shutout, striking out eight, to earn the win.
– Tilden 1, Phillips 0-Alan Tidwell struck out nine and allowed just four hits and Leonard Thomas drove in the game`s only run with a double as Tilden prevailed.
– Brother Rice 6, Leo 5-Mick Milcarek had two hits and two RBIs to lead Brother Rice (16-11, 8-6) in the Catholic League South.
– Rich Central 7, Evergreen Park 6-Kevin Gill and Tim Gowen each had two hits and two RBIs to lead Rich Central (15-8) in the nonconference win.
SOFTBALL
– Thornwood 4, Bloom Trail 3-No. 5 Thornwood (24-6) toppled SICA East foe and seventh-ranked Bloom Trail (21-4) when Shannon Hutson scored the winning run on a throwing error in the sixth inning.
– Sandburg 7, Stagg 0-No. 3 Sandburg (25-3, 9-1) stayed atop the SICA North behind Gina Ugo`s 15th shutout, a one-hitter. Ugo, now 18-0, struck out eight and walked one.
– Morris 2, Maria 1-Joy Battersby tossed a two-hitter and fanned 10 and Erin Hickey went 3 for 3 with two runs scored as No. 8 Morris (24-4) rolled.
– Benet 9, Oswego 1-Kate Enochs tossed a one-hitter with 19 strikeouts, including 17 straight, for No. 9 Benet (19-6). During the win, Enochs (18-6)
notched her 800th career strikeout, a school record.
– Mother McAuley 15, Seton 0-Jean Nolan hurled a no-hitter with seven strikeouts and Traci Eberhardt went 4 for 4 with three RBIs for McAuley
(20-8).
– West Chicago 10, Glenbard East 5-Gretchen Austgen had five RBIs to lead West Chicago (22-3, 10-3) to the Du Page Valley win.
– Providence 14, Minooka 4-Shirley Gomer, Kris Jarzynka and Michelle Mariani each went 3 for 4 with an RBI to lead Providence (16-7).
– Joliet Catholic 6, Plainfield 1-Colleen Hiller had two RBIs to spark Joliet Catholic (16-12).
– Rosary 6, IMSA 1-Kelly Feltes (three RBIs) and Adrienne LeFevre (two RBIs)
had three hits apiece to pace Rosary (20-4).
– Andrew 5, Lincoln-Way 3-Winning pitcher Stacy Zarembski aided her cause with two hits and two RBIs for Andrew (22-6, 6-4 in SICA West).
– Glenbard North 10, Naperville North 2-Glenbard North (17-5, 9-3) stayed atop the Du Page Valley on Candy Carrellas` one-hitter. Carrie Rammon (2 for 4, three RBIs) spurred the offense.
– Hinsdale Central 11, Downers Grove North 2-Rani Sharma homered and drove in four runs for Hinsdale Central (21-3, 9-2) in the West Suburban Silver.
– Wheaton Central 3, Wheaton North 2-Beth Cwinski drove in the winning run for Central.
– Joliet West 13, Joliet Central 8-Heather Green (4 for 4, six RBIs) and Kari Babich (3 for 4, four RBIs) did the majority of offensive work in the SICA West win for Joliet West (16-10, 7-3).
