The Dream Team`s 127-83 victory over Brazil on Friday assured it the top spot in its pool and set up a meeting with Puerto Rico when medal-round play opens Tuesday. Croatia and Germany are also guaranteed spots out of this pool, but the last qualifier won`t be determined until Sunday night.
That situation was created when Angola shocked Spain 83-63, an upset that left those two teams and Brazil with 1-3 records.
Spain and Angola look like sure losers Sunday since they play, respectively, the United States and Croatia. But using tiebreakers, Brazil must defeat Germany that day or the last qualifier from this pool will, surprisingly, be Angola. If that does happen, it would be the first African country to reach the medal round in an Olympics.
