New contract: Dutch-based recording company PolyGram NV said the U.S. singer Lionel Richie has signed a long-term contract to record on Polygram`s Mercury and Polydor labels. The agreement was reached after the expiration of Richie`s contract with the Motown label, the company said in a statement from its London-based international arm. Richie was originally a member of The Commodores group. His solo career began in 1981, leading to nine years of international chart-toppers that include ”Endless Love” and ”Say You, Say Me.”
