Your article in the Aug. 2 Business section concerning the shadowy side of the temporary help business was correct.
For a short period in the mid-1980s I was an executive officer for a midwest temporary help firm. What these businesses do is approach companies and try to sell them on the idea of cutting costs by gutting their permanent workforce. This is the least creative way to cut costs and the one poorly managed companies default to first. In addition, I`ve had experience with companies that use temporary firms to circumvent discrimination laws.
The growth of temporary help firms is yet another example of failed trickle-down economics. It amounts to a hostile takeover of the American workforce.
