– Spikes, etc. . .: The memories from Saturday`s 10-team volleyball jamboree at Harper College will have to be stored in the minds of the players. No videotaping will be allowed.

That means coaches will have to take extensive notes. But that doesn`t faze Triton`s Carol Priebe, who already is familiar with the talents of most of her starting lineup. Key returnees include outside hitters Becky Hull and Jenny Mouhot, middle blocker Laura Nichols and setter Rene Rupslauk.

”It`s a good idea,” Priebe said. ”I`m glad they`re doing it because I get the chance to see what my team looks like in a game setting, and I also can see what the competition can do.”

Freshmen include Maria Akins, Tina Eiternick, Michelle Hertel, Jenny Jones, Jennifer Nelson, Dawn Scott and Sheila Taylor. ”I`ve got the numbers and I have the talent,” Priebe said. ”I`m hoping to get a couple of more key players, but either way we should still do well.”

Association. The Chaps finished last season ranked fifth in the country with a 21-2-2 record and will kick off their season at 11 a.m. Sept. 6 against Lewis and Clark College in Godfrey, Ill.

– Local help: A pair of former suburban high school soccer standouts will lead Bradley University this fall as the Braves attempt to bounce back from a 1991 season in which they scored no goals in the second halves of any of their games (6-14) and went winless in the Missouri Valley Conference (0-5). Senior fullback Matt Mason (St. Viator) will patrol the backline and handle the captain`s chores along with junior Brian Remedi (Sandburg).

Bradley returns nine starters and boasts an impressive recruiting class led by a trio of transfers who attended Peoria Notre Dame together. Junior midfielder Mitchell Prunty has returned from Aurora University. Forward Chad Clift left Viterbo College and fullback Matt Dries left St. Ambrose.

– Rosary update: Rosary College`s men`s soccer team is loaded with Chicago area talent. It begins with goalkeeper Eric Trejo (Gordon Tech), who keyed a defense that gave up a total of five goals last year. Returning defensive starters include Kurt Schrader (Hoffman Estates) and senior all-district pick Jay McNichols (Oak Park).

Other local products expected to contribute include sophomore midfielder Alan Hernandez (Loyola) and senior captain Erick Baumann (Schaumburg), a forward.

Lewis won the award for seven consecutive years (1984-1990) before finishing second last year to Bellermine. The GLVC`s all-sports title is determined by points earned for first through ninth place in each of the conference`s 11 sponsored programs, including golf, tennis, baseball, basketball, soccer, cross-country for men and volleyball, cross-country, basketball, softball and tennis for women.

– New sports: The Illinois Institute of Technology will have three new varsity sports programs this school year. In addition to the area`s first NAIA men`s volleyball program, women`s basketball and softball will debut at the South Side campus.
