Your article on lead-poisoning tests in the Chicagoland section on Aug. 19 presents a perfect example of an ineffective government program.

According to the report, the Centers for Disease Control provided $35,000 for testing and 101 children were tested. These numbers show each test to cost $346.53. Later in the article a woman stated that she came to the ”free”

Cook County program because the test cost $50 at the hospital.

I understand that paying taxes is necessary for our government to function, but the utter waste of tax dollars in programs such as this only sickens the taxpayers that foot the bill.
