I have just read, with great disdain, Andrew K. Buchanan`s Aug. 27 guest column ”The ennui of the twentysomethings.” While Mr. Buchanan has raised an important issue of apathy to the political process in America`s youth, I take great exception to his attributing this apathy to the ”happy Republicans.”
Like Mr. Buchanan, I entered college in 1984 and today I own my own real estate investment company. I am earning an extremely good living while (among other ventures) supplying land for a multitude of low-income housing projects. I am a Republican and a conservative and I believe that I can make a very good living and help the greater good. Republicanism is not egocentric, uninformed selfishness.
I will cast my vote for George Bush this November. I will not sit in front of my television and yell ”woof, woof, woof.” I will not mention ”how cute” George looks and I will certainly not condemn an entire party for the actions of a few uninformed young voters.
