Police are looking for a man who reportedly tried to attack a 12-year-old girl Saturday night near Hawthorne School, 430 N. Aspen Drive.
The girl and a friend were walking along a wooded pathway near the school at about 9:15 p.m. when a man who was naked from the waist down grabbed her and threw her to the ground, said Vernon Hills police Cmdr. Jerry Storer.
The girl`s friend ran off, and the girl managed to get free after a brief struggle, police said.
”She picked up something, she wasn`t sure what, and smacked him upside the head and he ran off” toward the school, Storer said.
The path is a common shortcut children use to reach a convenience store.
