Single earrings get lonely, too, hanging around in the bottom of the jewelry box, no mate to call their own.

But next month, the socially conscious art and jewelry shop Ancient Echoes comes to the rescue with ”Lend an Earring,” a sort of swinging (or would that be dangling?) singles bar for lovelorn clips and studs, which will benefit the National Alliance for Children with AIDS.

Dig out those neglected singles, or even the pairs you`ve been leaving home alone for months, and send them on a blind date to 1800 N. Clyborn Ave. Or escort them yourself from 7 to 10 p.m. Nov. 20. They`ll serve as your cover fee to a bash where both you and your earrings can bid on the perfect match among 2,000 or so cast-offs.

Glamour magazine has already donated 50 pairs. And just in case there aren`t enough treasures, match-maker and owner Ivy Hofstadter plans to sprinkle in a few pairs from the store.

All proceeds from the donated earrings and 15 percent of store receipts for the night will go to the Alliance, which helps cover medical bills for kids with AIDS.
