I have lived in Illinois for more than a year, and I am amazed at the constant references by the media to Gov. Edgar`s being a ”teetotaler” (INC. column, Oct. 7). You make it sound as though he has a genetic defect. At the same time you never identify others who drink as drunks, lushes or boozers, etc.

Coming from a state (Massachusetts) where certain elected officials were rarely even sober, I find the governor`s lifestyle and beverage choice refreshing. As head of this state, he may not make decisions that please everyone but at least he`s sober when he makes them.
