With a little planning and a lot of luck, the village`s Christmas wish list could become a reality next year, officials said.

During an annual review of nearly 100 goals for the village, officials for the first time ranked those projects they hope can be accomplished during 1993. The new priority system should help village staff implement the objectives, said Village Manager Kurt Bressner.

Chief among the hoped-for changes is the establishment of local preserve guidelines for Lyman Woods, Village Council members said. The council rejected a proposal to seek state nature preserve status for Lyman Woods earlier this fall, but commissioners hope to maintain the woods as a protected natural area under local ordinances.

Commissioners also want to develop long- and short-term strategies to combat substance abuse and gang involvement among adolescents; to find ways to ease a transition by village firefighters to a new 24-hours-on, 48-hours-off shift; to finish improvements at the Main Street-Ogden Avenue intersection; to set up a parternship communication system among fire, police and municipal officials to identify and rectify problems in the community; and to finish up a downtown improvement plan.
