The National Football League gave Green Bay Packers safety LeRoy Butler a one-game suspension Wednesday for a hit he made on Detroit quarterback Andre Ware in Sunday`s game. Butler left his feet and hit Ware in the head with his forearm after Ware had released a pass.

”The NFL has made its ruling. I just have to accept it,” Butler said in a statement released by the Packers about the one-game suspension without pay. ”The biggest thing that can help now is a win and then put it all behind us.”

Packers coach Mike Holmgren said it was ”fairly obvious” the suspension hurts more going into Sunday night`s game because the Oilers` run-and-shoot offense puts more pressure on the secondary.

The Packers late Wednesday signed Johnnie Johnson on waivers to help fill the gap.
