Judith Ann Calder was elected president of the University of Illinois board of trustees last week, university officials said.

Calder, 42, of Glencoe, is founder and managing director of Abacus Financial Group Inc., a Chicago investment-management firm. She holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from the university’s Urbana-Champaign campus.

The board oversees academic policies at the institution’s Downstate and Chicago campuses and a $1.5 billion budget.

Calder is a Democrat. Her party holds a 6-3 board majority.
