The Clintons wanted to show they’re serious about paying more attention to kids, so there they were – the president-to-be chatting with Mr. Rogers and the incoming first lady allowing Kermit the Frog to perch atop her shoulder.

These sights last week were part of the first-ever inaugural stage-show salutes to kids.

Mary D., 11, of Washington, D.C., was impressed. “A lot of times presidents just do programs about politics.”

The show for kids 7-12 featured the Muppets and Mr. Rogers. “If we could make every neighborhood like Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, America would be a happier place,” Bill Clinton said.

The show for kids 13-17 was hosted by Will “Fresh Prince” Smith. It featured performances by Boyz II Men, Vanessa Williams and Celine Dion. KidNews at the inaugural. Page 6.
