Employers of in-home child care are covered by the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act, as well as the federal and state employment laws discussed in your Jan. 22 article.

Employers must insure against any injuries their child care provider may suffer because of his or her job. These can range from minor cuts to major back injuries. Workers’ Compensation insurance can be obtained easily as a rider to one’s homeowner’s insurance. Information about the Workers’ Compensation Act is available from the Illinois Industrial Commission, 312-814-6611.
