The new Southwest Side transit line, behind schedule because of delays in installation of electronic control equipment, probably will open in June, Chicago Transit Authority officials said this week.

The equipment installation should be finished late this month and the city, which is overseeing construction of the line, will turn it over to the transit authority, said CTA President Robert Belcaster. About 250 CTA employees, including motormen and switchmen, then will undergo training that will take about two months to finish, he said.

The line, which will run between downtown and Midway Airport, was to have opened on March 21.
