The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency granted a second 30-day extension on expiring environmental permits for the proposed Robbins trash incinerator Friday.
Dan Shomon, spokesman for the EPA, said the agency is still trying to resolve the question of whether the project’s first siting approval, which was invalidated in court, also invalidates its pollution permits.
Opponents of the 1,600-ton-per-day burner said Friday they were happy the 18-month extension the developers are seeking was not approved, but believe the permit should be declared dead.
