Strategic move: Robert C. Purcell Jr. has been named General Motors Corp.’s executive in charge of corporate strategy development, John Smith, GM president and chief executive, said. In the newly created position, Purcell will be responsible for developing GM’s integrated strategic plan. He will report to the automaker’s President’s Council. Purcell, 40, has been director of business planning for GM’s North American operations since March 1992.
