Police said they found the body of an elderly woman in a burning car early Wednesday.

Foul play was not suspected, said Peter Siekmann, Du Page County chief deputy coronor. The coronor’s office had not identified the woman as of Wednesday evening.

Police found the car engulfed in flames about 2:15 a.m. in a driveway in the 900 block of North Wright Street. The car’s transmission was shifted to park, said Police Sgt. Lisa Burghardt, but it was unclear whether the ignition was still on.

“I imagine (the ignition) was melted away,” Burghardt said. Arson, she said, is not suspected, “but it hasn’t been ruled out.”

The cause of the fire had not been determined, Burghardt said. She said she did not know where the fire started.
