– Augustana 48, Carthage 0-Amos Johnson ran for three touchdowns as Augustana won in Rock Island to remain undefeated in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. It was the Vikings’ 19th consecutive victory over Carthage.

Quarterback Tommy King ran 30 and 58 yards for touchdowns and threw a 46-yard scoring pass to Bob Baird. The Vikings (6-2 overall, 6-0 in the conference) led 42-0 at the half and used 16 ball carriers, substituting freely as they amassed 489 running yards.

– College of Du Page 36, Rock Valley 8-Antonio Davis threw for 228 yards and three touchdowns as Du Page advanced to the finals of the Region IV NJCAA playoffs.

– Greenville 28, Eureka 21-Brian Hubble ran 14 yards for a touchdown with 4:24 left in the game as Greenville held on at home. Chris Bandy ran for touchdowns of 6 and 3 yards for Greenville (7-2 overall, 4-1 in the Illini-Badger), which took a 21-7 lead in the fourth quarter.

– Illinois College 38, Grinnell 8-Illinois College (3-6) rolled on the road behind precision passing from Scott Puck and Brian Henry.

After Puck rushed for a 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter, Torey Pryor hit a 20-yard field goal in the second. Then Puck hit Jody Davis for touchdowns of 57 and 21 yards to put Illinois College up 24-0.

– Lake Forest 28, Beloit 21-John Klasen rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns as Lake Forest held on at home in the Midwest Conference.

Klasen scored all his touchdowns on 1-yard runs as the Foresters (2-7 overall, 1-4 in the conference) built up a 28-7 lead after three quarters. Beloit (3-6, 3-2) rallied in the fourth quarter but fell short.

– Knox 19, Monmouth 16-Joe Metzka kicked five field goals and Knox added two safeties in Midwest Conference action in Galesburg.

Knox (5-4 overall, 3-2) won without a touchdown as Metzka kicked field goals of 26, 30, 25, 19 and 37 yards.- Milliken 28, Illinois Wesleyan 17-Brian Olysav had touchdown runs of 60 and 40 yards for Millikan (5-3, 2-4 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) in Decatur.

– North Park 29, North Central 16-Doug Schmidt rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another to lead North Park in Naperville. Schmidt completed eight of 24 passes for 145 yards for North Park (4-3-1).

– Principia 22, Concordia 0-Jordan Poznick completed 31 of 46 passes for 327 yards and one touchdown and scored one himself as Principia (4-4) won in River Forest.

– Quincy 42, Concordia 21-Quincy’s Rob Munson rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns to defeat visiting Concordia, clinching the Illini-Badger Conference title for the Hawks. Munson is the first player in Quincy’s history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.

– Trinity 49, IBC 29-Todd Johnson dashed for 186 yards and a school-record five touchdowns for the Deerfield school. Johnson ran for touchdowns of 16, 25, 23, 3 and 3 yards to lead Trinity (7-2). Wide receiver Eric Green caught two scoring passes for Illinois Benedictine.

– Wartburg 27, Aurora 7-Kevin Hudson scored two touchdowns in Aurora. It was the eighth straight win for Wartburg (8-1). Hudson scored on runs of 4 and 1 yards, Bob Beatty scored on a 6-yard run and Mike Elijah ran 1 yard for another score.- Wheaton 49, Elmhurst 32-Jeff Brown completed 21 passes in 30 attempts and four touchdowns as Wheaton won in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Brown’s longest was a 75-yarder to Bryan Smith in third quarter. Pedro Arruza rushed for two touchdowns for the Crusaders (7-1 and 6-0).

GATEWAY

– Illinois St. 34, Southern Ill. 16-Wide receiver Kevin Glenn scored two touchdowns in Carbondale as Illinois State clinched its first .500 season in seven years. The Redbirds sacked SIU quarterbacks eight times.

Illinois State (5-4-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the Gateway Conference) fell behind 10-7 in the second quarter but took control in the third. Leading 14-10 with 10:22 to go in the third, cornerback Franky West intercepted a pass on a fake punt by the Salukis (2-7, 1-3) and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown.

– Northern Iowa 48, Morehead St. 0-Jeff Stovall ran for two touchdowns and Kurt Warner and Brett O’Donnell each threw for two more to lead Northern Iowa in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and keep the Panthers’ playoff hopes alive. Northern Iowa (7-3) still could win the Gateway Conference, but league-leading Western Illinois would have to lose next week for that to happen.

– Northwestern La. 34, Eastern Ill. 26-Shannon Harris ran for three touchdowns and quarterback Brad Laird threw for one and ran for another to lead Northwestern Louisiana in Charleston.

Four backs had 10 or more carries for Northwestern Louisiana (5-4), which won for the fourth time in five games. Danny Alexander led the way with 72 yards on 11 carries.

– SW Missouri St. 21, Western Ill. 18-Southwest Missouri State reserve quarterback Ken Whittaker scored two touchdowns to lead the Bears in Macomb.

Whittaker replaced starter Phil Johnson four plays into the contest and drove the Bears (6-4 overall, 4-2 in the conference) the rest of the 80 yards, diving in from one yard out.

MIDWEST

– Akron 19, Eastern Michigan 7-Marcel Weems ran 1 yard for a touchdown and John Harpring threw a 48-yard scoring pass as the Zips prevailed in Akron, Ohio. Weems scored in the first quarter to cap a 15-play, 70-yard drive for the Zips (5-4 overall, 4-3 in the Mid-American Conference).

– Ball St. 21, Miami (Ohio) 0-Mike Neu passed for 236 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Brian Oliver, as Ball State (6-2-1, 5-0-1) remained in a first-place tie in the Mid-American Conference with the win in Muncie, Ind.

Neu hit 24 of 31 passes, including an 8-yarder to Oliver for a first-quarter touchdown and 5 yards to Oliver for the Cardinals’ final TD in the third period. Oliver, who caught 12 passes for 138 yards, tied a Ball State record for TD receptions in one season with eight.

– Bowling Green 40, Kent 7-Zeb Jackson gained 117 yards on 21 carries and scored two touchdowns in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Falcons (6-2-1 overall, 5-0-1 conference), co-leaders in the Mid-American Conference, extended their unbeaten streak in league games to 22 games. The Golden Flashes (0-9, 0-7), have lost 14 in a row for the longest losing streak in NCAA Division I-A.

– Western Mich. 34, Ohio 28-Western Michigan took a 34-6 lead into the fourth quarter, then watched Ohio University rally until a last-second pass in the end zone failed, allowing the Broncos to hold on for the road win.

Sam Vink came off the bench to pass for 310 yards and three touchdowns, but Ohio’s three-game winning streak still came to an end. Western improved to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in the MAC.

– Dayton 49, Urbana 6-Pat Hofacre ran for three touchdowns as host Dayton kept alive the longest active regular-season winning streak in college football. The Flyers (9-0) now have 46 straight regular-season wins. Dayton built to a 35-0 halftime lead, behind Hofacre’s touchdowns and one each by Jeff Watkins and John Daniels.

EAST

– Penn 30, Princeton 14-Terrance Stokes rushed for a school-record 272 yards on 42 carries and scored a touchdown as Penn won the battle of Ivy League unbeaten teams in Philadelphia.

Penn took advantage of early turnovers to build a quick lead as Jim McGeehan threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns to Chris Brassell.

Penn (8-0, 5-0) can capture their first Ivy crown since 1988 with victories over Harvard and Cornell. Princeton (7-1, 4-1) was unable to mount a consistent attack as Penn contained Ivy League rushing leader Keith Elias to 59 yards on 15 carries. Elias entered the game with 1,286 rushing yards.

– Brown 43, Harvard 29-Brown quarterback Trevor Yankoff threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for two more as his 210-yard passing effort helped the Bears (3-5, 2-3) to the Ivy League victory in Providence, R.I.

– Bucknell 32, Lehigh 27-Rob Glus completed 13 of 25 passes for a career-high 246 yards and three touchdowns to lead Bucknell to the Patriot League win in Lewisburg, Pa. Bucknell (4-5, 3-1 in the league), in its third straight win, beat back a 14-point challenge from Lehigh (6-3, 3-1) in the fourth quarter.

With the game tied 13-13, Bucknell scored three straight touchdowns as Glus connected with Damon Garner on a 3-yard touchdown pass and Steve McHugh scored on a pair of 1-yard runs to give Bucknell a 32-13 lead with 4:36 remaining.

– Cornell 21, Yale 0-Pete Fitzpatrick scored two touchdowns and the Cornell defense posted its second shutout of the season as the Big Red prevailed in Ithaca, N.Y. Cornell quarterback Bill Lazor completed 13 of 29 passes for 138 yards. Fitzpatrick rushed for 81 yards in 25 carries.

– Dartmouth 42, Columbia 25-Jay Fiedler passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as Dartmouth pulled away in the fourth quarter in New York. Dartmouth, which shared the Ivy League championship last season, kept alive its chance of tying for the title again. The Big Green is 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the league.

Fielder ran 6 yards for a touchdown that put Dartmouth ahead 27-25 with 13:55 left in the game. He later threw a 21-yard scoring pass to David Shearer.

– Massachusetts 29, Richmond 24-The UMass ground game dominated and Eric Oke kicked three field goals in Amherts, Mass. The Minutemen showed a 248-164 advantage in ground yardage and Oke kicked field goals of 29, 21 and 37 yards.

SOUTH

– Georgia Tech 37, Baylor 27-Dorsey Levens raced 75 yards on a swing pass for a touchdown and set up one of William Bell’s three scores with a 49-yard run for Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

Levens’ scoring pass from Donnie Davis came on the first play of the fourth quarter and broke a 20-20 tie in a game that left both teams with 4-5 records.

Bell scored on runs of 1, 1 and 16 yards and Levens had another touchdown on a 1-yard run. Tyler Jarrett kicked a 40-yard field goal in Tech’s 17-point fourth quarter.

– Memphis St. 19, Mississippi 3-Larry Porter rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown and the defense set a school record as Memphis State won at home.

The Tigers (5-4) limited the Rebels to minus-4 rushing yards on 30 carries, the lowest total ever by Memphis State opponent. The Rebels (4-5) netted only 107 yards of offense.

Quarterback Steve Matthews, the key to Memphis State’s offense, was lost for the year when he broke his left leg in the second quarter. Matthews was 11 of 18 for 94 yards and had paced Memphis State to a 10-0 lead after its first two possessions. After Mac Cody returned the opening kickoff to the Mississippi 49, Matthews combined with Porter to lead a seven-play scoring drive.

– Troy St. 31, Western Ky. 24-Jimmy Godwin scored on a one-yard run with 14 seconds remaining to lift Troy State in Troy, Ala.

Godwin’s run capped a 24-point, fourth quarter comeback for the Trojans after falling behind 24-7 early in the period.

Trojan quarterback Kelvin Simmons completed 18-of-32 passes for a career high 307 yards in the win.

– Vanderbilt 12, Kentucky 7-Steve Yenner kicked a 21-yard field goal with 2:29 left and Vanderbilt’s defense did the rest in Nashville as the Commodores picked up their first Southeastern Conference victory of the season.

Cliff Deese set up the go-ahead field goal when he broke a 48-yard run down the right sideline to the Kentucky 11 after being slowed at the line of scrimmage.

Kentucky (5-4, 4-3 SEC) kept Vanderbilt (3-5, 1-5) out of the end zone for three plays before Yenner put the Commodores ahead 10-7. Pookie Jones tried to rally the Wildcats, but Alan Young sacked him twice, the latter in the end zone for a safety with 1:08 remaining.

SOUTHWEST

– Mississippi St. 13, Arkansas 13-Tom Burke kicked a 43-yard field goal with 1:03 to play as Mississippi State rallied to tie Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Freshman Derrick Taite, forced into action when senior Todd Jordan was injured, completed a 20-yard pass to Chris Jones to set up the field goal. The Bulldogs (2-5-2, 1-4-1 SEC) have won only two of their last 12 games. The Razorbacks (3-5-1, 2-4-1) haven’t won in the last four games.

– Rice 31, SMU 24-Bert Emanuel ran for a touchdown and passed for two scores, including a 42-yarder to Emerson Allen with 3:43 to play that sealed Rice’s win in Dallas.

The Owls (5-4, 2-3 Southwest Conference) still have a chance at a bowl berth, needing victories against Baylor and Houston to reach the mandatory six victories over Division I-A competition. One of Rice’s victories was against Division I-AA Sam Houston.

– Texas Tech 49, TCU 21-Byron Morris ran for a career-high 223 yards and scored three touchdowns in the second half to lead Texas Tech in Lubbock.

The Red Raiders (4-5, 3-2 Southwest Conference) won their third straight game. Victories over Southern Methodist and Houston would qualify them for a bowl berth.

Morris scored on runs of 17, 6 and 4 yards in the second half. Texas Tech gained 492 yards, relying mostly on Morris.

FAR WEST

– USC 45, Stanford 20-Johnnie Morton broke a Pac-10 receiving record and Rob Johnson established a pair of school passing marks as host Southern Cal remained alive in the Rose Bowl race.

Morton caught four passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns from Johnson, giving him 71 receptions for 1,233 yards and 12 TDs this season.

– Washington 28, Oregon St. 21-Washington scored three touchdowns in a 3:30 stretch in the second half to come from behind in Corvallis, Ore. It was Washington’s 16th victory over the Beavers in the last 17 tries.

Washington (6-3, 4-2 Pac-10) trailed 14-3 at halftime and 14-6 before the decisive surge.

J.J. Young rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns for the Beavers (3-7, 1-6), but only 27 yards in the second half. His 8-yard touchdown run with 1:13 to play cut Washington’s lead to 28-21, but the Huskies recovered the subsequent onside kick and held on for the victory.

– Air Force 25, Army 6-Wayne Young ran for a career-high 103 yards on just nine carries and scored twice, helping Air Force beat its service-academy rival Colorado.

Led by linebacker Steve Walker, the Falcons (4-6) held Army without a touchdown for the fifth straight meeting-winning all five games. Walker had 13 tackles, including three for losses.

– Montana 54, Idaho 34-Sophomore quarterback Dave Dickenson passed for four touchdowns and ran for two more as Montana claimed its first Big Sky football championship since 1982 in Moscow, Idaho.

The victory also gave the No. 5 Grizzlies (9-1 overall, 6-0 Big Sky) the league’s automatic berth in the Division I-AA playoffs. The loss dropped Idaho to 7-2 overall, 4-2 against Big Sky opponents.

– Eastern Washington 16, Montana St. 7-Daryl Wright and David Lewis combined for 310 yards rushing and Derek Collins kicked three field goals as Eastern Washington downed Montana State in Bozeman, Mont.

The loss was the first at home this season for the Bobcats, who fell to 4-2 in Big Sky play and 7-3 overall. The Eagles improved to 4-2 and 6-3. Lewis gained 188 yards on 27 carries and Wright 122 yards on 21 attempts behind an offensive line that dominated Montana State.
