Mayor Arthur Schultz will undergo a biopsy Tuesday to determine whether a cancerous tumor on his vocal cords that plagued him earlier this year has returned.
Schultz, 60, had part of a tumor removed in May and received about 33 radiation treatments to shrink the remaining portion. Since then, doctors at St. Joseph’s Medical Center have examined the mayor on a monthly basis. Now doctors suspect the tumor has returned or another one has formed.
“If they find anything, the mayor may have to have surgery Nov. 16,” said Nancy Franchi, Schultz’s secretary. “Right now nothing is decided.”
She added that Schultz is feeling well and continuing his normal activities.
Dr. Thomas Kron will perform the biopsy at St. Joseph’s in the afternoon. Schultz is expected to be released by the evening.
