It’s been tough at work, slow going on the expressway, and the last thing you want is to spend two hours banging around making dinner. Enter Rymer Foods Inc., a Chicago-based supplier of meat and seafood dishes to restaurants, with resealable pouches of frozen marinated steaks, chicken and even pot roast, the only entree except the fried chicken that is precooked.

For example, before leaving for work you can move two of the strip steaks into the refrigerator to thaw. When you get home in the evening, put the steaks on the grill or under the broiler.

The line is called Menu Maker and the selections we sampled were tender and flavorful.

“It’s economy, good taste and easy preparation in one package,” says William Wood, national sales manager of Rymer, 4600 S. Packers Ave.

The pouches, around $10 each for about 30 ounces, come in eight varieties: Two seasoned T-bone steaks, four peppercorn sirloin strips, four teriyaki rib-eye steaks, nine teriyaki chicken breasts, nine lemon-herb chicken breasts, nine buttered chicken breasts, 12 pieces of fried chicken and a pot roast with vegetables.

All are available in the frozen-food cases at Dominick’s Finer Foods and Omni Super Stores.
