Q-I am a college sophomore and my problem is that I believe that I’m gay but I’m not really sure. If I am gay, how do I tell my parents? And how do I go about finding other men my age with the same interests? I am a very liberal-minded human being, so I would not be upset at all to find out I’m a homosexual, but before I go telling my parents, I’d like to find out myself.

A-This is a very serious matter and I agree with you that first you must find out what your sexual orientation is before you involve anybody else. Most colleges have counseling services available to the students, and I would find out what your college offers. If your college does not have one, ask one of the health professionals to refer you to a counseling service at a college near you.

Just remember, you’re only in your second year of college, so you’re still very young. Let some time pass, and let’s see what develops. But don’t involve your parents until you are sure of what your sexual orientation really is.
