Talks to continue: United Mine Workers Vice President Cecil Roberts said Wednesday that the union and coal operators probably won’t complete work on a new contract until after the Thanksgiving holiday. Roberts said the two sides still must complete work on the language of the agreement. The UMW sent its pickets home Tuesday, raising hopes that the negotiators were ready to announce a final agreement. But there were no statements from special mediator William Usery, and union spokesman Jim Grossfeld cautioned that “we’re still meeting.”
