The headline on a story in Wednesday’s paper incorrectly said that the state hoped to reopen a home for the mentally retarded in southwest suburban Tinley Park that was sued by the U.S. Department of Justice. As the story correctly said, the W.A. Howe Developmental Center has remained open with more than 490 residents since the Justice Department filed suit alleging poor conditions in January 1992.

– A story on violence against children in Canada in Wednesday’s paper erroneously attributed the phrase “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” to the U.S. Constitution. It comes from the Declaration of Independence.

– A Transportation note in the Transportation section Nov. 21 incorrectly stated that Admiral Tool and Manufacturing Co. has a patented locking device for a train seat. According to Admiral, it has only applied for a patent.
