With all the public servants leaving public service for civilian life at very substantial fees, I think it might be interesting to recall what Vice President Garner said in 1940 when he refused to be on the ticket for Roosevelt’s third term and went back to Texas.
At that time he was offered $75,000 a year (as I remember the figure) to write a syndicated newspaper column.
His reply was that he was not worth it and the office of vice president was not for sale.
