Last summer’s 10th annual Night Out Against Crime has won the city national recognition for its efforts.
The night, held Aug. 3, was organized through the St. Charles Police Department, and the community came in seventh nationwide for its efforts. St. Charles was one of 2,500 communities with populations of less than 30,000 that participated in the event.
The night is held to help heighten crime-prevention awareness and encourage participation in local efforts.
St. Charles police held this year’s event in Pottawatomie Park, and 42 businesses helped sponsor it. Crime prevention officer Darrin Lee organized the event.
Hal Honeyman, an owner of the Bike Rack in St. Charles, said that the evening was family-oriented. There were free hot dogs and beverages and musical entertainment by the Blooze Brothers Rhythm & Soul Band, he said. His company donated two mountain bikes as prizes.
