Police have charged a Niles woman with several traffic violations in connection with the New Year’s Eve hit-and-run death of a Des Plaines woman.

Carol Griffeth, 61, of Niles, was scheduled to appear Feb. 1 in the Skokie branch of Cook County Circuit Court on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, failure to exercise due care for a pedestrian in the roadway and violation of driver’s license restriction for failure to wear eyeglasses, police said.

On Friday, Marion Cohen, 59, of Des Plaines, was struck shortly before 8:19 p.m. at Dempster Street and Parkside Avenue, according to police. Cohen was taken by a Park Ridge emergency unit to Lutheran General Hospital, where she died.
