The Java Express coffee shop in Chicago opens its doors this evening for the “Love Your Neighbor as Yourself” folk music benefit.
The program begins at 7 p.m. and will feature artists from “Irene’s Good Night” coffeehouse series in Midlothian. The performers include Mark Dvorak, Anna Stange, Al Tinley, John Welterholt, Dan Lucas, Maureen Nelson, Bill Obermeyer and Jamie Carras. Proceeds from the evening will support the New Neighbors program, which assists homeless families.
Last year members of churches in the Beverly/Morgan Park area decided to band together to form the New Neighbors transitional housing program. This program provides a temporary residence for homeless families. In order to return to a self-sufficient lifestyle, family members receive assistance in areas such as budget planning and employment training. The New Neighbors program operates on donations and volunteers. Direct contributions are welcome.
The Java Express Coffee Shop is located at 10701 S. Hale Ave. in Chicago. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at the door. A silent auction also will be held. For more information call 312-445-8949.
