Household International Inc. said fourth-quarter earnings soared 56 percent, to $93 million, or 89 cents a share, from $59.8 million, or 62 cents a share, a year earlier.

For the year, Prospect Heights-based Household’s profit also was up 56 percent, to a record $299 million, or $2.85 a share, from $191 million, or $1.93 a share, in 1992.

“The quarter saw improved performances at most of our businesses and an increasingly positive consumer market,” said Donald C. Clark, chairman and chief executive.
