It is great to finally see that the majority of Americans have realized that gun control is very much needed in the United States. After all, in 1990 in Australia, Canada, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, a group of nations with a similar population in size to the U.S., there were only 291 handgun deaths.
Those nations have stricter laws than us. During the same year, the U.S. lost 10,567 people due to handguns. Of course, instituting stricter laws will not mean a substantial drop in the first few years that the laws are in operation.
One thing that would help in implementing any laws would be to do away with the delaying tactics of the NRA, which interprets the 2nd Amendment as the right to bear arms. Actually, the amendment provides for an armed militia. To avoid the time-consuming and costly battles in state and federal courts, we need to repeal the 2nd Amendment.
