Firefighters are faster getting to the scene on weekends now that the station is staffed.
The department received village approval in November to staff the station with three firefighters on Saturdays and Sundays. Until then, there were no firefighters on weekend duty at the station.
Chief Jim Sunagel said the change has cut weekend emergency response times to three to four minutes from 10 to 12 minutes.
“The first five to seven minutes are the most important time in an emergency,” said Trustee Joseph L. Devlin.
