Charles Madigan’s graphic front-page statistics on “America’s war against our children” (Jan. 23) are to be highly commended for the grim focus on the greatest tragedy of our times, the unanswerable fact that America, the great land of the free and the home of the brave, can no longer defend our children from the evil plague that has invaded their world.
This is probably the most thought-provoking and challenging call to action that we can no longer ignore because it says: What are you going to do to stop it? What can you do about it? Have we really got the guts to drive away this crime wave against our children?
In America we have always looked to the “3 Rs” to educate our children. Maybe we could fruitfully add three more “Rs”-rights, reverence and responsibility. It might be controversial, but if it would solve our problem, it would certainly be worth a try.
