Temperatures in Chicago soared into the 90s for the sixth straight day Saturday, creating an unhealthy ozone level, according to the city’s Department of Consumer Services.
From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, the temperature at O’Hare International Airport held at a high of 94 degrees, with a heat index of 99, according to the National Weather Service. The temperature at Midway Airport was 92 degrees, with a heat index of 104, according to the weather service.
A seventh straight day of 90-degree temperatures is possible Sunday, according to the weather service. The forecast calls for a high of 90 in the far west suburbs, cooling to 80 by the lake.
Unhealthy levels of ozone-created when hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides react in sunlight-can cause throat irritation, fatigue, headaches, coughing, wheezing and other sinus problems.
