The American Academy of Pediatrics called Monday for autopsies in all sudden infant death cases to uncover a small number that may actually be murders. “There is a small subset of infants who die unexpectedly whose deaths are attributed to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome but who may have been smothered or poisoned,” the group’s Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect said.
