The black eye that CBS Inc. sustained when its merger proposal for cable shopping channel operator QVC Inc. was knocked out by a higher bid from Comcast Corp. lightened late in the week as CBS struck a deal for new affiliate stations with powerful Westinghouse Broadcasting Co. The latest shuffling of affiliates brings three new stations to CBS and creates a partnership to purchase stations in the future, produce syndicated programs and sell local advertising time. Just over the horizon, according to smart money, CBS is likely to be sold to another entertainment-communications-information giant. The betting favorite-at least for now-is Walt Disney Co.
