In a recent letter to the editor, Deborah Walsh of the Chicago Teachers Union Quest Center suggests that it is vital to retain reformers in the public school system. I would agree. However, I would question whether Taft High School, as described, is reform in the right direction.

Should public schools be aimed at a specific career theme or should industry pick up after a public education is completed? From my university vantage point, the average high school student needs to spend more time thinking, reading and writing, attaining basic skills necessary for whatever the profession.
