Bernard V. Velna, 59, an entertainer known as “Flashie the Clown,” died Thursday in Resurrection Hospital. He was a resident of the Kelvyn Park neighborhood and performed free at picnics, fairs and in hospital wards, as well as in parades and on TV shows. He provided aid to motorists with disabled vehicles as a state highway emergency “minuteman.” Survivors include his wife, Theresa; seven daughters, Brenda Rosada, Bridget Ayling, Babette Scaletta, Becky Weingart, Briana, Bernadette and Belinda; two sons, Bernie and Brandon; 12 grandchildren; one brother; and a sister. Mass for Mr. Velna will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Viator Catholic Church, 4170 W. Addison St.
