Park debate: Two women will debate the merits of feminism at 4 p.m. Saturday in Washington Square Park, more widely known as Bughouse Square, across the street from the Newberry Library, 60 W. Walton St. Susan Catania, a former Illinois state representative, and Mary Ann Hackett, a member of the Concerned Women of America, will exchange views on the topic, “Feminism: A Mystique or a Mistake,” according to Newberry spokeswoman Moyra Knight. The debate, a part of the library’s 10th annual book fair Friday through July 31, will be among an afternoon of “soapbox sessions” during which speakers will state their views on topics and face the taunts of hecklers.
